In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to setup the Yes-No Conditional field shown in the Yes-No Conditional Use Case article. Find that article here.

1. Upload the child templates into Draftonce  for the amount of Conditionals, Dependents and configure the appropriate field types.

  • The child template is the template that will be imported when Yes is selected. Our child template is called Attorney Choice - Yes.docx.
  • In this example, we will ask the end-user: Have you used our legal services in the last six months?
  • If Yes is selected, the two fields above (${when-used}, ${why-used}) will appear.
  • Configure the field tags in the child template with the appropriate field type. We will use text field for both of the field tags.

2. Enter a descriptive conditional field tag in the parent template and upload into draftonce.

(Note): Make sure the are they are there are enough field tags if you had dependent conditionals.
For More Info Click here
  • The name of our parent template is Yes-No Conditional Demo.docx.
  • The name of our conditional field tag is ${legal-services}.
  • Our parent template will import the child template if Yes is selected by the end-user.

3. Edit the conditional field tag in the parent template, select Yes-No Conditional, and modify as needed.

  • In the *Type dropdown list, select Yes-No Conditional.
  • Fill in the Heading, Subheading, and Help fields with the necessary information. For more help setting up field tags, go here.
  • Select the child template (Attorney Choice - Yes) under *If Yes: and the desired text for If No:
  • If No is selected, the text, Intentionally excluded, will appear on the parent template.
  • Click Save.

4. Create an interview with the parent template.

  • For more information on how to create an interview, go here.
  • When creating an interview, only the parent template needs to be selected, not the child template.
  • Notice in the example below that Attorney Choice - Yes, the child template, is not under Selected Templates. Only the parent template, Yes-No Conditional Demo, is moved to Selected Templates.

After completing the setup interview, the Yes-No Conditional should appear like the images below. If Yes is selected, the fields in the child template will appear. If No is selected, no fields will be displayed.

Helpful Information

  • The order of field tags in the child template cannot be rearranged when creating an interview. To change the order of the field tags in the interview, you must change the order in the template.
  • There is no limit on how many field tags can be in the child template. However, be mindful of how many questions are in the child template for usability purposes. Too many field tags will take valuable screen space and cause users to constantly scroll.
  • Have descriptive names when uploading child templates into DraftOnce. This will make it much easier to manage multiple templates.
  • Avoid sharing templates with multiple Sessions to reduce the chance of errors.
